The helicopter plane crash that killed half as many people as traffic Engineers kill with cars every single day in the US, was 5 days ago, first time a midair crash happened in this country since 1986 (which changed regulations and equipment) and they're still talking about it, considering changes to regulations. Tomorrow a plane-load of people will die turning left at a red light on a stroad on the way to get milk and nothing will change.
It's not just that individual drivers/victims get blamed and those crashes dismissed as unpreventable. There's also the problem of being owned by our cars / coerced into driving by the zoning code & highway dept collusion. Demanding higher standards would require us to have more leverage or options. All the status-quo needs to maintain itself is for folks to remain afraid of using e-bikes to replace car trips and unable to collectively invest in transit operation. Instead give $5/day to oil.
@enobacon Oligarchs do not walk on public streets, do not drive cars. It's not their problem. They use helicopters.
