It's not that there's no human audience for your stuff on mainstream social media, it's that the algorithm is the audience you have to appeal to first, in order to reach anyone at all
Compared to mastodon, where users build their own subscription lists and the stuff you opted in to doesn't compete with stuff the platform wants to feed you: it's a whole different world
