@straphanger the metro system in Santiago finished installing elevators in every station about 5 years ago.
It was hard to do: it took a lot of ingenuity to upgrade the old stations downtown.
Accessibility is the law here.

Pushing an elderly parent in a wheelchair leads to similar insights.
I wish that city authorities would require their street design team to come to work at least once a year by wheelchair using public transport. I think urban accessibility would improve a bit faster.
This is one of the big reasons why we stopped using our full sized stroller and switched to a travel stroller.

Having grown up in a city with elevators at every subway station, and since 10 years also near level boarding on the commuter trains, and since like 2000 or so low-floor stroller areas on all buses, it is indeed pretty nice. And you quickly take it for granted.

@straphanger Be ready for when your kids have kids of their own... I have done this once again in NYC and more recently in Lisbon!
