My thighs are aching remembering that deadlift. (My knees, too.)

When my kids were smaller, I did it in , , , and, far too often, in .

Here's to fully accessible transit, wherever we find ourselves.

@straphanger the metro system in Santiago finished installing elevators in every station about 5 years ago.

It was hard to do: it took a lot of ingenuity to upgrade the old stations downtown.

Accessibility is the law here.

Me too! Once you have children, you become aware of how bad are cities designed for pedestrians.

Pushing an elderly parent in a wheelchair leads to similar insights.

I wish that city authorities would require their street design team to come to work at least once a year by wheelchair using public transport. I think urban accessibility would improve a bit faster.

Having grown up in a city with elevators at every subway station, and since 10 years also near level boarding on the commuter trains, and since like 2000 or so low-floor stroller areas on all buses, it is indeed pretty nice. And you quickly take it for granted.

@straphanger I feel a lumbar disc bulging just looking at this.

@straphanger Be ready for when your kids have kids of their own... I have done this once again in NYC and more recently in Lisbon!
