Another issue here with smoke in the area and poor #AQI is the trade-off we have to make with #iAQ. For unknown reasons, this house simply likes to keep high CO2 levels.

I generally keep 2 windows open on opposite sides of the house regardless of the weather, but we've not been doing that with the #Wildfires

So one day recently we left for 3 hours, came home and found the #Aranet had recorded this CO2 reading.

No heat running. No one home, exhaling. Gas fireplace turned completely off. Windows closed.

What a tradeoff.

The smoke that had overtaken our area around noon today has moved elsewhere (at least for now) and we're back into decent #AQI according to PurpleAir. So is @firefly which is great, as we've been trading off the smoke for a couple of days.

Buncombe doesn't currently have fires, and wants people to stop calling the FD about the smoke. Polk does have the fires and isn't letting people know much about them.

We may get rain, but winds are still supposed to be in the 20's tomorrow. Reset, repeat.

No burning. Hope for (just enough) rain.

"A message from the Buncombe County Fire Marshal:
Buncombe County is currently seeing a lot of smoke and haze from wildfires burning in our neighboring counties. The Fire Marshal is urging Buncombe residents not to report smoky conditions to 911 unless you see flames or a column of smoke.

Thank you and please remember we are currently under a statewide burn ban."

It has really rocketed up this afternoon, I'd imagine people are getting nervous. Perfectly clear this morning, terrible quality now. Windows closed 😱 and the BlueAirs both running.

Jeff Masters: EPA warning: do not go outside in the Central U.S. dust storm! Hazardous dust covers parts of KS, OK, CO, MO, WY, IL, TX, NM, NE. The AQI in St. Louis hit an unfathomable 5,791 from PM10 (dust); an AQI over 300 is “Hazardous”. The tops: Lamar, CO hit an AQI of 12,802. Consult airnow.gov.

@czarbucks Whenever folks toot about poor air quality where they live, I like to share this to give them an idea of how bad it could be. 408 is an actual #AQI reading in Wenatchee on August 14, 2018. Visibility from my home was less than 1/4 mile in smoke. The next day, when the AQI had dropped to 354 (and was 510 in Chelan), I had to get a special VFR clearance in my helicopter just to fly to the airport 3 miles away to fuel up for a photo flight in Moses Lake (which was clear).
