Reading the description of a reasonably high level role in data governance for an Australian govt. body and I'm like cool cool this sounds great - using standards and helping people, I've got chops in that space (co-authored book chapters, talks etc)

Then get to the part where the entire workflow is going to be using 'standard windows applications' (PowerBI/automate/whatever).

My people, you cannot get to A using B. Just... nope.

It is often associated with misguided attempts at returning to the era of national champions, like building a French search engine or a European Google, or worse with the eternal boogeyman that is the "splinternet." It doesn't have to be this way!

In its judgment, the General Court of the European Union strengthened the conciliation and regulatory powers of the European Data Protection Board.

"The DPC will have to continue its investigations into Meta unless it chooses to refer the matter to the European Court of Justice. Given the timeline of the original investigation, which began in 2018, it may still take several years before a final determination is made regarding the GDPR compliance of Meta’s business model, particularly in relation to behavioural advertising."

Drafting #DataGovernance Charter for a client. It is exhausting work and not a task for an AI or a junior.

Lots of careful word choice, sketching reporting lines, and referencing back to the high level design signed off by client. The challenge is to be both prescriptive and descriptive in the design of the checks and balances.

A lot harder than “draft is a load of policies”, particularly as US politics reminds us of the need to design robust checks and balances into governance systems!
