This is one of the more recondite aspects of company law in many countries (including the UK) that needs to be reformed if we are to make big business genuinely socially and environmentally responsible.

Degrowthers tend to focus on directors - the fiduciary duty, board composition, etc - but while shareholders can sue if their financial interests are compromised (which they can under most company law at present), or indeed remove and replace directors, changes to board composition, duties and responsibilities is not enough.
