Georgetown #law professor Steve Vladeck, who closely tracks the work of #SCOTUS, said the #SolicitorGeneral’s office has “spent its entire history building a reputation of trust & credibility that the Supreme Court relies upon & takes very seriously.”

“The question is, who is left? Who is going to argue against positions that might be good for team #Trump but are inconsistent w/the standards of the office — & potentially the long-term interests of the government?”

The #Trump administration’s demand for loyalty, as well as its removal of prosecutors & #FBI officials deemed not supportive of the president’s agenda, goes against that tradition, outside analysts said. So too does #Trump’s directive that #PamBondi “seek sanctions” against attorneys & law firms that the administration believes are engaging in “frivolous, unreasonable & vexatious litigation against *the United States* [trump].”

…The #SolicitorGeneral is the #DOJ’s fourth-highest-ranking official, sometimes referred to as the “10th justice” because that person is so often involved in the cases the court accepts.

In addition to presenting the government’s views at the court, the office develops the department’s broader appellate strategy. It has traditionally hired lawyers from politically diverse backgrounds to provide an array of legal perspectives.

The people planning to leave the #SolicitorGeneral’s office have various reasons, according to several people close to the workforce who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss upcoming personnel changes.

Many are uncomfortable or turned off by directives from #DOJ leaders, including AG #PamBondi’s demand for “zealous advocacy” of #Trump’s agenda, these people said.

Many lawyers who argue for #Trump at #SCOTUS are heading for the exit

At least half of the front-line lawyers in #SolicitorGeneral’s office, the elite #DOJ office that represents the Trump admin at the Supreme Court, are preparing to leave or have already announced their departures — an unusually high amount of turnover at a time of intense #litigation involving Trump’s initiatives & as his emergency requests pile up at the high court.

"a trolley is hurtling down a track towards four people. You are on a bridge under which it will pass, and you can stop it by putting something very heavy in front of it. As it happens, there is a heavy man next to you. Your only way to stop the trolley is to push him over the bridge and onto the track, killing him to save four. Should you proceed?

The heavy man is Donald Trump.

The four people are Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, J.D. Vance and Mark Zuckerberg.

Listening to a Linux podcast, where the hosts talk about #VibeCoding, and the "ethics of LLMs" come up a lot, including the environmental effect.

Am I the only one who get annoyed about this from people who previously basically said f.. you to #urbanism, and they explicitly stated that they would not give up their car for #publicTransport or any alternative?

I mean sure, adding to the existing problems doesn't help, but neither ignoring old ones. What do you all think?
