I live in the IL 9th district. I don't know anything about this person who is trying to unseat Schakowsky, other than she doesn't appear to live in the district. But I will say it is crazy that our district has only been represented by 3 people since 1949. It is also interesting from a hyper-local perspective since #Evanston mayor Dan Biss--up for reelection next week--has been eyeing Jan's seat for years. #Chicago https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5211158-progressive-influencer-kat-abughazaleh/

The Cook County Clerk's office continues to work against the 82% of Evanston voters that voted to adopt ranked choice voting in a binding referendum in 2022. Democracy must be respected. The mandate is absolutely clear: Evanston voters demand more choices with ranked choice voting.
Virtually every street lamp along my lakeside walking route has had its soft warm bulb replaced with a glaringly blue one. Unless I learn it was for light-pollution reasons or something, I'm gonna continue to be mad about it.
In 2022, Evanston, IL voted 82% yes to implement ranked choice voting. The office of the Cook County Clerk has refused to enact the people's will. Reform for Illinois is challenging them in court, and we've got their back.
More choices with ranked choice voting. That's the mandate from the people of Evanston.

Packed meeting to discuss Evanston bike lanes
This is the same article as every other article on proposed bike lanes. A city plans bike lanes, drivers complain, business owners complain, some bikers stand up in support; and eventually they'll probably put in some bike infrastructure of some sort, as long as it doesn't inconvenience drivers in any way.
Evanston Merchants Don't Bother To Find Out Facts
"The merchants say the project, which would strip most parking off the east side of Chicago Avenue to make room for the bike lanes, would harm “nearly 200 small businesses which depend on street parking for customer access.”
Of course, study after study shows that businesses benefit when bike lanes go in. But, but, paaarking!

Cars the winner in the competition for space in downtown Evanston
"The reality is that despite official pronouncements about being a bicycle-friendly city and the importance of having a walkable community, Evanston is like most American cities in regard to modes of transportation: The top priority is cars, trucks and other vehicle traffic...designed to maximize vehicle throughput and car parking convenience"
Really glad to see the expansion of separated bike paths in Evanston. Unfortunately, some of the plan includes sharrows. I would love to see even more connections, increased traffic calming to get speeds below 20, and some neighborhoods or business districts without any automobile traffic. #evanston #cycling #CyclingInfrastructure https://evanstonroundtable.com/2023/01/03/area-cycling-network-slated-to-grow/
