FreeBSD On Laptops Sees New Power Management Driver, WiFi 4 / WiFi 5 Progress

@dgar
This comment is erasing a lot of the work done by people from other countries on open source operating systems.
FreeBSD may be USA based, but from a quick sampling of what I can quickly get from https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/tree/astro/xearth/files/freebsd.committers.markers, which has 190 entries (out of 307 who have commit access to doc, ports, and/or src), only 49 are based in the US, so almost there quarters are outside the USA. (Yes, this doesn't take into account the amount of work each committee does.)
Why do I run FreeBSD for my home servers.

「 TLDR : the main problem is SYSTEMD, the secondary problem is the stacking of abstraction layers docker / kubersomething most of the time used of unknown reasons “just because it's modern” 」

I really loved this blog post — it perfectly sums up what I've believed for years: don't overcomplicate things.

Thanks again, @mms
that is how do it. what about you? sudo -i? sudo -s? su -? gksudo? runuser? pkexec? See https://www.cyberciti.biz/open-source/command-line-hacks/linux-run-command-as-different-user/ for more on those commands.
@sgharms Steven Harms published a blog post series on setting up a distraction free laptop environment based on FreeBSD, with well thought out motivations and detailed steps. I'm glad Medley Interlisp is among the core applications he installed and works well.

Launching BSSG - My Journey from Dynamic CMS to Bash Static Site Generator
@moehrenfeld @jk same; switched to Mac for desktop, and #FreeBSD for servers. Life is so much easier now.
#selfhosting #freebsd - day 22
Lambing has blown my plans to have my BSD-Only by the 11th so I've had to give the damned penguin this victory but only while I bring my VPS up properly.
Here are the edited highlights...
HAProxy got set to listen to the entire ::/64 (yes, including requests from itself) this went as took longer than expected to nail down.
added blacklistd - it's so refreshing to just do a quick sysrc and edit pf.conf
SSHD - turned off legacy IP connectivity - it is always humbling to see how many boxes are trying to connect to ssh looking for an open port. I might give them a honeypot/tarpit to play in later
A hardware issue seems to have taken not one, but two 12TB drives to valhalla.
