Holy shit, I almost missed that it's Great Lakes Awareness Day. Be aware!

You probably thought I was going to throw a four-chord Gord song at you, but my money is on Stan Roger's gorgeous White Squall:

"But I told that kid a hundred times Don’t take the Lakes for granted
They go from calm to a hundred knots so fast they seem enchanted.
But tonight some red-eyed Wiarton girl lies staring at the wall
And her lover’s gone into a white squall"

Take Action: No Oil in the Great Lakes

Recently, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the fast-tracking of the federal permit for the Line 5 tunnel citing a “national energy emergency”. This means the federal permit will likely be granted without a full environmental review and a shortened timeline. However, the Canadian company still needs approval for two permits from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

Please ask Governor Whitmer to deny all permits for Line 5.

The pipeline and tunnel are huge threats to Great Lakes that provide drinking water to over 40 million people and are the largest source of surface freshwater on earth.

EveryActionTAKE ACTION: No Oil in the Great LakesPlease ask EGLE Director, Phil Roos and Governor Whitmer to deny all permits for Line 5. The pipeline and tunnel are huge threats to our Great Lakes that provide drinking water to over 40 million people, provide the bedrock of our economy, and are the largest source of surface freshwater on earth.

Generative AI is booming — and some data centers use up to 5 million gallons of water a day, much of it lost to evaporation.

With limited reporting, groups like the Alliance for the Great Lakes are raising concerns about long-term impacts.
