Today, we’re coming right up to date with the big Kia EV9 electric SUV, seen here at the SMMT Northern test day for journalists last year. The EV9 has this rather interesting ‘crystal ball’ style gear selector (first photo). I peered into it, looking for guidance on the future of the EV market, but came away none the wiser. Incidentally, the crystal ball flips over to reveal a more conventional rotary gear selection knob when you turn the car on.

Bit of #sun today, though remained windy and cool ( -3C ). Took the opportunity to change the forward lower control arms in the Kia, as one had a toasted ball joint.

Drives noticeably better now, though there is still a mystery noise to sort. Maybe a window bushing? I dunno.

Driving my daughter's ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) Subaru was ... different. Besides the fact that it is way noisier and slower in acceleration, the hardest thing to get used to was the lack of engine braking! Let off the accelerator, and it just keeps going! I sorely missed my regen braking on my #EV6. I have turned it to Auto Max. It isn't quite one-pedal driving (i-Drive in #Kia), but it is close. And that whole business about turning off the engine at stoplights!
