Yeah, 54% of American adults read at the grade 6 level or lower.
This affects critical thinking, moral philosophy, and media analysis skills.
Thanks Reagan.
Texas DSHS: Health Alert: Texas 2025 Measles Outbreak – Expanded Outbreak Counties
"As part of the ongoing measles outbreak response, DSHS is updating the list of counties currently included in the designated outbreak area. It now includes Cochran, Dallam, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Lynn, Lamar, Lubbock, Terry, and Yoakum counties..."
In response to the unnecessary death of another child from measles, I'm sharing this segment from the TV show "The Pitt". This is the response doctors used to give to parents who were uneducated and influenced by misinformation and conspiracy theories. Somewhere along the way, doctors began to believe and act like political correctness was more important than being blunt.
Would it upset me if someone spoke to me this way? Probably, but at least my child would be alive.
Over 600 measles cased now and nearly 500 in Texas, alone. And another death, bringing the total deaths to 3, all in unvaccinated people.
Meanwhile, 2 infants have died from pertussis (whooping cough), also on the rise due to antivax hysteria.
3 might not seem like a lot, except they were all preventable with the vax, which is one of the safest and most effective vaccines available, providing life time immunity to 97% of those who receive it.
But this is likely only the tip of the iceberg. Likely far more than 600 cases. Likely more deaths to follow. And, if this outbreak continues into January, the WHO will likely take away the U.S. status as being a measles-free nation, putting us in the category as many poor countries in the global south.
To those who feel vaccination is their choice, keep in mind that it's a choice they are imposing, nonconsensually, on millions of their neighbors who have no immunity through no fault of their own (eg infants aren't vaccinated until at least 12 mos; people on immune suppressing medications; people with immune supressing diseases). Also keep in mind that measles is so infectious that a single infected individual can infect up to 90% of the unvaccinated and immune compromised individuals they meet. And also keep in mind that even if it doesn't kill you, measles can erase your immune memory, making you much more susceptible to other deadly infections. It can also cause lifetime hearing impairment and potentially deadly brain damage that hits years after a measles infection.

#USA, #measles outbreak has grown to include a total of at least 481 cases since Jan. Based on most recent epi-info, DoH is updating list of #counties included in designated outbreak area. It now includes ten counties: Cochran, Dallam, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Lynn, Lamar, Lubbock, Terry, and Yoakum. These counties have ongoing transmission of measles, and 95 percent of the confirmed cases have been in these counties as of April 4. + at https://www.dshs.texas.gov/news-alerts/health-alert-texas-2025-measles-outbreak-expanded-outbreak-counties
Kennedy's guilt for this #measles epidemic in no way exonerates the parents who refused to #vaccinate their children. A sane society would charge every one of them with child abuse.
Texas announces second death in measles outbreak
"The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting the second measles death of a Texas resident in the ongoing outbreak centered in the state's South Plains region. The school-aged child who tested positive for measles was hospitalized in Lubbock and passed away on Thursday from what the child’s doctors described as measles pulmonary failure. The child was not vaccinated and had no reported underlying conditions."

ICYMI yesterday: The US has enjoyed decades in which #measles deaths have been very low. But the country may be on a different trajectory now, experts fear. https://www.statnews.com/2025/04/06/measles-third-death-new-normal/

This is not normal. For three reasons.

The Houston Health Department confirmed a measles case in an unvaccinated person who traveled through the William P. Hobby Airport on March 30.
Just give #RFKjr a hooded black robe and a scythe; he's going to a funeral of a child he helped kill.
"While Kennedy denies his visit to Samoa in 2019 worsened the outbreak, health officials argue that his anti-vaccine rhetoric fuelled public fear at the height of vaccine hesitancy in Samoa."
"at least 83 deaths and over 5,700 cases, mostly among babies and young children"
"US Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who has faced a backlash over his handling of the outbreak, visited Texas on Sunday in the wake of the death, which is the third overall in recent weeks. "
Yeah, they probably aren't dying quick enough for that prick.

'Measles is a highly contagious viral infection, which can cause life-threatening illness to anyone who is not vaccinated. Measles can be prevented with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.'

A second child has died in a fast-moving #measles outbreak in #Texas. Nearly 500 people have been infected in the state since January. The hospital confirmed that the 8-year-old victim had not been vaccinated. The deaths are the first from the disease in the United States in a decade. Measles was declared eradicated in America in 2000. But officials fear misinformation about vaccines is fueling public skepticism and a resurgence of the disease.
For more information, DW spoke to Owais Durrani, an Emergency doctor in Houston, Texas.
As of April 3, 2025, a total of 607 confirmed #measles cases in the USA were reported by 22 jurisdictions.
