This week for #MusicWomenWednesday, I want to focus on a woman who unfortunately wasn't with us very long. She earned a reputation in the DC area as a masterful interpreter of songs. She died of cancer before she saw any fame, though.

One disc jockey in the UK championed her music and the anthology 'Songbird' was released posthumously, selling millions of copies. This is Eva Cassidy and this is her cover of 'Fields of Gold' 🥰

Sister Rosetta Tharpe

Often being referred to as "the original soul sister" and "the Godmother of rock and roll".
Tharpe was a pioneer in her guitar technique; she was among the first popular recording artists to use heavy distortion on her electric guitar, opening the way to the rise of electric blues.

A personal favourite.

Agnes Caroline Thaarup Obel is a Danish singer, songwriter, and musician based in Berlin.
Obel debuted as a solo singer with her first album Philharmonics (2010). She wrote, played, sang, recorded, and produced all the material herself. [source: #wikipedia ]

The following song is from her 3rd album, 'Aventine'.

This week, 20 years ago, German indie rock band Wir Sind Helden released their second album „Von hier an blind“. Apart from the obvious hits, it contains one of the best love songs ever written in German: „Ich werde mein Leben lang üben, dich so zu lieben, wie ich dich lieben will, wenn du gehst“ (I will practice my whole life to love you the way I want to love you when you go).
