John (he/him)<p>People know that US science research funding is threatened with gigantic budget cuts right?</p><p>My field in physical science is most connected to <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/nsf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nsf</span></a> and <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/nasa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nasa</span></a>, where widespread rumors threaten to cut <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>research</span></a> budgets in half in the president's budget proposal next year. Other agencies like <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/noaa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>noaa</span></a> and <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/nist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nist</span></a> <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/epa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>epa</span></a> <a href="https://dmv.community/tags/nih" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nih</span></a>, etc are all facing dangerous cuts.</p><p>Of course Congress is responsible for the actual budget, and it may see things differently. Still, the president's vision is guiding science agencies' decisions now in responing to guidance for 25-50% staffing cuts in science agencies.
