Arcadiagt5<p>So, yeah, maybe on my next trip to Japan I’ll try to schedule a full day to go through <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Odawara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Odawara</span></a> castle PROPERLY. Oh, and maybe spend some time for shits and giggles at the nearby “interactive Ninja museum” 8/8 <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/CherryBlossoms2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CherryBlossoms2025</span></a></p>
Arcadiagt5<p>The rest of the exhibitions seem to be well curated and focused on putting <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Odawara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Odawara</span></a> castle in historical context as the finale of the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/SengokuJidai" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SengokuJidai</span></a>. i.e: not just “this was important” but “this is WHY this castle and the Hojo family MATTERED”. That’s good, that’s very good. 7/n</p>
Arcadiagt5<p>Now, I was hampered by time constraints and couldn’t really sit down to watch them all, but <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Odawara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Odawara</span></a> castle has multiple (at least 3) re-enactment films with HIGH production values and from what I saw GOOD English subtitles. 6/n</p>
Arcadiagt5<p>… go ALL IN on the modern museum experience. Which is what <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Odawara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Odawara</span></a> castle has done, and done BRILLIANTLY well from what I saw. 5/n</p>
Arcadiagt5<p>That’s NOT a criticism of any of the three BTW - <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Odawara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Odawara</span></a> castle, <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/warrior" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>warrior</span></a>, and <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/mikasa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mikasa</span></a> are all brilliant in their own ways (and yes I’ll be visiting Mikasa again later) 3/n</p>
Arcadiagt5<p>Ok, given the tendency of Japanese castles to burn down frequently, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that the current iteration of <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/odawara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>odawara</span></a> castle is a 1960 restoration. So pretty much like <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/warrior" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>warrior</span></a> and <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/mikasa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mikasa</span></a> in terms of “original” content. 2/n</p>
Arcadiagt5<p>Ok, since I’m now sitting on the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/shinkansen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>shinkansen</span></a> platform, some thoughts on <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Odawara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Odawara</span></a> castle. 1/n</p>
