Excellent article on #DaraHorn's new children's #book and more!

"When are #children ready to encounter a #Jewish #history of persecution and slaughter?

One answer is provided during the seder itself, which often ends with the traditional song “Chad Gadya,” or one little goat in #Aramaic. It’s a “cumulative” song about a baby goat that is eaten by a cat, who’s killed by a dog, who’s beaten with a stick, culminating with the Angel of Death being slain by God. One interpretation is that the goat represents the Jewish people, and the climax of the song signals the redemption of the #Jews. It’s a dark theme smuggled into an upbeat, if macabre, children’s song.

Making light of the #seder’s darker themes is a #Passover tradition all its own, and Horn is on board with it.

“By the time children are old enough to appreciate [the darkness], they own the #story. They’re characters in the story, and they know that about themselves and that this is a story about us,” said Horn."

Need to change a habit or get into a new groove? Try this Omer program - only $10 for the PDF download, or they have hard copies, too.

"There is a seven-week count (some may be familiar with it being referred to as the Counting of the Omer) which starts on the second day of Passover. Each day is counted, for a total of 49 days. The intention is to be more fully present and to make every day count.

Kabbalah added another dimension to the count. 6 Each of the seven weeks is aligned with particular energy from the Tree of Life which provides for spiritual reflection.

While this count can be done in a rote manner (day one, day two) commemorating what others did in the past, the mystical teachings transformed it from an ancient narrative into a present personal story."

My personal favorite counting of the Omer exercises!

"An innovative, spiritual workbook that integrates the Tarot and the Kabbalistic tradition of Counting the Omer:

• Explores the origins and meaning of the 49-day Kabbalistic meditative practice of Counting the Omer and how it can lead to spiritual revelation, personal insight, and connection with the Divine

• Reveals the correspondence of the Tarot’s minor arcana with the Sephirot of the Tree of Life and explains how both relate to the Omer meditation

• Provides a daily practice workbook that explores the related Sephirot and Tarot cards for each day, examines their Kabbalistic and spiritual meanings, and provides questions for daily reflection and meditation guidance"

Not the worst thing that could happen to Canadian Jews... 😆

"For #Jews in #Canada, much like their #US counterparts, #Manischewitz #kosher #wine has become a staple of #Passover and other religious celebrations.

But now many are struggling to find the #NewYork state-made drink for the wine-heavy spring holiday as #Canadian government retailers and wholesale monopolies pull U.S.-made products from shelves in protest of President Donald #Trump's #tariffs and annexation threats."

It is a positive commandment of the Torah to relate the miracles and wonders wrought for our ancestors in Egypt on the night of the 15th of Nissan, as it is written (Exodus 13:3): "Remember this day when you left Egypt," similar to the obligation (Exodus 20:8): "Remember the Sabbath day."

How do we know this is on the night of the 15th? This is taught by the words (Exodus 13:8): "And you shall tell your child on that day, saying: 'It is because of this..." which indicate it is to be done at the time when matzah and marror are placed before you.

This mitzvah applies even when one does not have a child to tell. Even wise sages who know it well are obligated to tell about the Exodus from Egypt. Whoever elaborates upon the events which transpired is worthy of praise.

No matter how you spell the bread of affliction, Passover is coming!

Matzoh is the unleavened bread that Jews eat during Passover. We eat matzoh and matza and matzo and matzah to remind us that our ancestors who were slaves in Egypt were freed and had no time for the bread to rise when they left. This funny Jewish Passover design makes a perfect gift!
