Ele Willoughby, PhD<p>Another detail of my pollinator garden piece made of collaged prints, for Manufactured Ecosystems. This shot shows my tiny sweat bee, Agapostemon virescens (Toronto’s official bee). I took a little liberty with scale so I could actually get some details and yet show the bee in context of the flowers (purple coneflowers, Canada goldenrod, 🧵1/2<br><a href="https://spore.social/tags/linocut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linocut</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/printmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>printmaking</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/collage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>collage</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/sciart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sciart</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/pollinator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pollinator</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/pollinatorGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pollinatorGarden</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/nativeBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nativeBee</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/sweatBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sweatBee</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/butterfly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>butterfly</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/moth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>moth</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/MastoArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MastoArt</span></a></p>

Native Plants<p>A few garden design thoughts:</p><p>-Masses of plants look more orderly than multiple one-off plants<br>-Tall, floppy plants can look weedy, so consider Chelsea chopping them in June, this will make them shorter and bushier<br>-Avoid Common milkweed and Canada goldenrod for small gardens, they can be aggressive.</p><p>Photos from summer 2024</p><p>-Coreopsis, spotted bee balm, purple coneflower, pearly everlasting<br>-Wild bergamot<br>-Black eyed Susan, blanketflower<br>-Purple coneflower</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/PollinatorGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PollinatorGarden</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/GardenDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GardenDesign</span></a></p>
Anne Boyd<p>It&#39;s good luck to clean seeds on New Year&#39;s Day, according to an ancient tradition I just made up. I prefer a dry breezy day for milkweed seed de-fluffing, so as to let the fluffs disperse themselves, instead of sticking to every damp surface as they did today. But if I don&#39;t adhere to my own made-up traditions, who will? <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Milkweed" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Milkweed</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/ButterflyWeed" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ButterflyWeed</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/NativePlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NativePlants</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/PollinatorGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PollinatorGarden</span></a></p>
Anne Boyd<p>Perhaps it&#39;s a bit de trop to post a Facebook link here, but these additional pictures of the garden of the Crouch family, as profiled in the NYT recently, are a must see.! And they will also be interviewed on CNN tomorrow morning. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/HumaneGardener/posts/8366437570094711" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">facebook.com/HumaneGardener/po</span><span class="invisible">sts/8366437570094711</span></a></p><p><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/PollinatorGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PollinatorGarden</span></a> <br /><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/WildlifeGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WildlifeGarden</span></a> <br /><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/NativePlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NativePlants</span></a> <br /><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Rewilding" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Rewilding</span></a> <br /><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/EcologicalLandscape" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EcologicalLandscape</span></a></p>
