I cannot urge you enough to not travel to the states shown here in dark maroon. It's not safe for *any* woman or lgbtq person.

Also do not buy products manufactured in any of those states - including Ky Bourbon.

Boycott any biz that has their headquarters in these states unless you know for a *fact* they support LGBTQ rights and are not right wing nut jobs. There aren't two sides here. No money for fascists.

Domestically, the national risk level has been set to “Worst Laws Passed.” While no new federal laws have been enacted, Trump’s executive orders are producing sweeping overcompliance and are being treated as de facto law across institutions. For transgender adults, many states have worsened due to newly enacted bathroom bans, ID reversions, and legal redefinitions that erase transgender recognition. For youth, even states once considered “safe” have backslid, as hospitals cut off care for new patients under 19 and comply with discriminatory sports bans.

In many Kentucky counties, 117 out of 120 of which are Red, the school system is the biggest employer.

It will absolutely collapse without the federal funds that keep them open.

All these people will lose their jobs, will only be hired back at sub-living wage rates, and the kid's learning will be disrupted for months if not years while the state legislators try to get fairy tale spewing for-profit scammers to take it all over.

From Kentucky State Senator Reginald Thomas: One measure the Senate took up was the second House Bill brought before us this session, House Bill (HB) 241. I originally supported this measure because it provided critical flexibility for schools recovering from closures due to extreme weather and other emergencies. It was a bipartisan and common-sense solution to help students and teachers. But what followed is exactly what frustrates so many people about politics. In a rushed, behind-the-scenes process, the Senate Education Committee altered the bill by attaching unrelated provisions to shield a struggling virtual school from oversight, despite its documented failures. This maneuver sidetracked meaningful discussion and undermined the bill’s original purpose, transforming it from a practical solution for lost instructional time into a protection measure for an unaccountable online program. Had the Senate received a clean bill that remained true to its intent, I would have fully supported it. However, I cannot support a bill that prioritizes political maneuvering over student success. As a result, I voted against the measure, which passed by a vote of 23-14. It now returns to the House with the Senate’s changes, and I urge lawmakers to remove these harmful provisions. If the House rejects the changes, the bill will move to a conference committee, where I hope we can restore it to its original intent and ensure it truly serves Kentucky students and schools.

Just a reminder class, Ky is a state w/ a deep red legislature.

If you come here and your wife, daughter, girlfriend, or mother needs emergency medical care, they will be left to die in the parking lot.

If you are LGBTQ, you will be harassed, and if you are Trans your regular medical regime will be withheld from you.

If you are non-christian you can expect to be treated like dirt unless you're filthy rich, then they'll just smirk behind your back.

Kentucky moved to violate prisoner's rights to freedom of religious practice and their civil rights to appropriate medical care by forcing them to de-transition in obedience to one whackadoodle cult's beliefs.

It's a violation of their basic human rights.

Since many people in prison are awaiting trial and are not yet (or ever) found guilty of anything, it's a gross assault on their dignity & freedom.

From State Senator Reginald Thomas: While these measures reflect positive advancements, the Senate also considered legislation with more troubling implications. Chief among them was Senate Bill 2, which passed 31-6. The bill prohibits state correctional facilities from using public funds for medically necessary hormone treatments and gender-related healthcare for transgender inmates. The Kentucky Department of Corrections already prohibits gender-affirming surgeries and has never performed such surgeries. I opposed this bill because it targets a small, vulnerable population—transgender individuals comprise less than one-half of one percent of Kentucky’s incarcerated population. Beyond its discriminatory nature, SB 2 exposes Kentucky to significant legal and financial risks. Similar legislation in other states has been overturned for violating the Eighth Amendment and established legal precedents concerning essential medical care for prisoners. If enacted, it will result in costly litigation, diverting resources from pressing priorities such as child poverty, childcare shortages, and juvenile justice reform. Despite these concerns, SB 2 now moves to the House for further consideration.

This week, the marble halls of the Capitol filled with footsteps and voices, a collective gathering of purpose as legislators reconvened to face the challenges of a new year. It is a scene as old as democracy itself—voices raised, ideas clashing, and the hope that through it all, something meaningful emerges for the people we serve. As is often the case, the first week focused on setting the stage. Committees were formed, rules debated, and traditions upheld. Yet, within this routine lay a moment that stood out—a contentious discussion on the Senate Rules to govern legislative operations during this session. These rules, often viewed as procedural, are far more significant than they seem. They determine how we debate, how we decide, and ultimately, how we serve. I spoke out strongly against provisions in the rules that, in my view, threaten the very principles we are here to protect. Among them is a rule allowing the introduction of a drastically altered version of a bill—the kind that arrives as a surprise, rewritten in a committee room, then rushed through for a vote the same day. Imagine, for a moment, how that feels: a bill you thought you understood is suddenly transformed, and before anyone—legislators or citizens—can digest its implications, it is passed into law.

21 States are Getting a Bump in Minimum Wage According to figures from the National Employment Law Project, lawmakers across 21 states and 48 cities and counties marked the first day of the year by raising their minimum-wage floors, with 55 of those jurisdictions hiking pay rates to meet or exceed the $15 per hour that advocates have long set their sights on. Later in 2025, Florida and Oregon are also slated to join the list of states raising minimum hourly wages for workers, as legislators try to bump compensation for America’s lowest-paid employees after years of inflation. So where can minimum-wage workers already expect a new boost to their pay packets for January, and by how much? Workers in Delaware are set to see the biggest change in their wages this year, with the minimum wage increasing by $1.75 an hour, from $13.25 to $15, while people earning minimum wage in Nebraska and Missouri can expect their hourly rates to rise by $1.50 and $1.45, respectively. According to analysis from the Economic Policy Institute, reported by Business Insider, pay rises across the states will directly affect over 3 million workers in America. A further 6 million, who get paid within 15% of the new minimum-wage floors, might also enjoy the knock-on effects from the improved rates, per the Institute.
