spring, and nature starts
once more round a yearly loop
we humans have doomed
sail towards an exhausted sun
exhausted to the bones
and the ship itself exhausted
there is land somewhere
perhaps, or if not land
an equal ending
long waves behind and few ahead
but not none, not yet
still enough worth counting

Dawn in the garden
Skunk in the window well
Still life, zero chill
The trees lived their lives
Outside the chaos of words
Lush naïveté
blood on my hands
sold my soul for.this
ringing in my ears
a peal of bronze and scatter
knees aching
gritted my teeth
and faked it
but never made it
air and stone and cold
built to amplify guilt
and fertilise fear
