Anybody have Wayland-compatibile tiling compositor (WM) recommenddations? I'd been using #xmonad for years, but it doesn't work with Wayland. #KDE #Plasma with #bismuth was good for me, but Bismuth doesn't work with latest Plasma. I've really not found anything good with Gnome, and the options like #sway and #hyprland require a bunch of time to configure and don't do things like remembering what to do when I plug in different external monitors like KDE does. I appreciate KDE's automation.

@Riedler This is timely. I'd been using #xmonad for years, but it doesn't work well with Wayland. #KDE #Plasma with #bismuth was good for me, but Bismuth doesn't work with the latest KDE. I’ve been working on a #freebsd from scratch blog post series and was going to skip right over Xorg (preferring #wayland and #sway)…and then I heard about #NSCDE - a reimplementation of #Solaris #CDE look-and-feel via #fvwm

Thanks to work by Christian Moerz, it was a snap. Literally `pkg install Xorg nscde` a change to my .xinitrc and I was up in a pastel bliss again. Run #interlisp on it is a beautiful joy.

I was so impressed AND I got to avoid s security holes and bit rot— so I sent some librepay love. It’s a great project!

I just tried 1.10.1 on but still have the same bugs I had with 1.10: All my desktop backgrounds now black, whether I use a solid background or an image as a background.

I'm going to return to using and hope that after SwayFX updates to be based on 1.10.1 that this bug doesn't come with it.

There are a still a number of open 1.10 regressions in the Sway bug tracker, so I'm not trying to isolate and report this as a new issue now.

So I've been experiencing occasional #crashing on #AlpineLinux with an #AMD 6800H #APU #Hardware using #amdgpu. I've been trying to determine what the cause may be. The system will regularly freeze at the disk decryption prompt when booting, sometimes before that, or after when in #Wayland #Sway. I just tried upgrading to #libdrm 2.4.124 on alpine edge. Would appreciate any ideas that may be causing this behavior. Should I see if it's possible to get a newer kernel?

Definitely not surprising to some, but in #Sway WM you can divide input devices into different groups (seats) - man.archlinux.org/man/sway-inp

There is a bug with focus being unstable between seats, so it's not really usable in a single Sway instance.

BUT, my initial idea was actually one blank Sway instance and two nested ones on top, each on it's own screen. And if it's done in the right order - you really have two independent desktops, each with it's own mouse and keyboard, no focus stealing.

1/2

After some fiddling in #sway I was able to simultaneously play a game with one set of mouse+keyboard, while being able to use my pc with another set of mouse+keyboard.

That's very interesting (personally mind blowing), potentially can have some very useful solutions

EDIT: Okay there is a problem, when you open a new window it steals the focus anyway. I'll try to find a workaround

🔴 Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll take a look at Gubar, a program that powers the status bar in Sway using the power of Guile Scheme!

This is a community project so we'll take some time trying it out, looking at the code, and discussing the plans for future development.
