Sober reading. #Trump & Kennedy spout absolute know-nothing nonsense that will deeply hurt people. RFK’s statements prove #autistic people and their families everywhere should fear #Trump and his allies in “a war on science and knowledge that aims to replace them with the modern superstitions of conspiracy theory” theguardian.com/commentisfree/

‘One hell of a turnout’: #trans activists rally in #London against gender ruling

This is AWESOME...!
I'm (technically) a cis woman (I also just see myself as an #autistic PERSON)

AND This "Ruling" sickens me.
I am NOT JUST my Boobs & "downstairs", or ovaries.
There's WAY MORE to being a WOMAN than THAT.

Also worries me about WHAT that MEANS for Trans Men??

SICKENINGLY ORWELLIAN

I'm struggling with comprehending how RFKJ can tell me that my wife doesn't exist. I'm pretty confident that as we approach our 37th wedding anniversary that she is not a figment of my imagination.
Yet I understand he says #autistic adults don't exist. How can that be? Especially raw when like this evening when we have to deal with a small meltdown caused by a bunch of stuff from the last week and too much to process.
I can't understand people who deny reality that's right in their face.

#Autistic girls and women frequently don't fit the stereotype (a sloppy stereotype for anyone, not just girls), nor were they often even noticed early on. Doctors built on the idea that girls were not autistic because they were girls, and studies only included boys. Today with the knowledge that autism is often different in girls and women, many autistic women are diagnosed as adults or quite late in life. youtu.be/N1X8__QutRI?si=b-QKzt

So, an example of #Autistic folks before modern vaccines is #NikolaTesla! Compassionate, brilliant, and had his ideas stolen by #Edison!

Excerpt from "Was Nikola Tesla Autistic?"

"Some Eccentric Quirks Might Hint at the Possibility of Autism

Tesla garnered headlines for other reasons that fascinated the public, as well:

A carefully regimented daily schedule with work from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and dinner at the same restaurant at precisely 8:10 p.m., to be served only by the headwaiter.
Physical tics such as repeatedly curling his toes 100 times each night.
His eidetic memory that allowed him to instantly memorize books and possess perfect recall, allowing him to learn 8 languages easily.
He demonstrated an early ability to perform complex integral calculus computations in his head.
In his youth, Tesla experienced periods of sickness during which he would have visions. These were often the genesis of inventions or solutions to technical problems.
He became obsessed with electricity at an early age.

Because of his inventions and the era in which he lived, many of Tesla’s quirks were seen simply as the eccentricities of a genius—the archetype of the mad inventor.

But looking back, it’s easy to see many of those some quirks as evidence of typical symptoms of an individual with high-functioning autism."

Calling all #ActuallyAutistic folk on Fedi. How many of y'all were diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome back when it was considered a valid diagnosis separate from autism? For context, Asperger's was merged into the broader Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2013.

For those who were diagnosed with Asperger's (like me, I was diagnosed in 2007), do you still bother to point it out when listing your diagnoses, or nah? (Comment below whether or not you do)

Bots are a problem everywhere, so it doesn’t surprise me that this is a thing for financial aid fraud too, now that tech is making it easier to spam this sort of thing.

On the flip side, #autistic and other #neurodivergent folks frequently get incorrectly labelled as “bots” by automated tools and even human reviewers. So as much as it’s important to weed out fraud bots, we also have to be careful not to hurt real people

@Richard_Littler @actuallyautistic I'm glad you're doing well. However there are many autistic people who are limited in all these areas, my son being one (actually he can run just fine but if he went for a run without support he could run onto a road and get hit by a car). The real point is that as long as they are able to do things they enjoy, their lives ALSO HAVE VALUE.

The way I see it, autistic anxiety isn't mysterious, unexpected, or shameful. It makes sense. But it also isn't inevitable.

I'd love to share with you how I got a handle on it, so it's really not much of a part of my life anymore. This framework, and concrete techniques, consistently work for my Autistic/AuDHD clients as well.
