Part 5

I put a hammering pattern on the lower layer and soldered both 925 silver pieces together. Checked if it was still fitting with the jack socket. Finished with soldering four solid 585 / 14k golden stars on top.

hey #bass players! i’m looking for an #amp recommendation. currently the only one i have is a little 1x8 ampeg practice amp, i think only 30 or 35w. it’s fine for practice at home, but isn’t gonna handle much more than that.

i’m working on getting into an actual band(!) and will need an actual honest-to-god amp at some point in the near future, for rehearsals and probably small-venue gigs. i can spend a little bit on an amp, budget isn’t the biggest concern within reason, but i’m not looking for a super high-end rig that will cost thousands of dollars either.

what i’m really looking to get a feel for is: do i walk into Guitar Center or someplace and buy an affordable combo amp (200w-500w?) off the sales floor, or do i order a separate amp head and cabinet set? how much of a difference will it really make? have y’all had any success or horror stories with certain pieces of gear, brands, etc.?

not expecting y’all to have all the answers for my specific situation, but really interested to hear what kind of amps or other gear y’all like!

Continued thread

Spent some time with my best friend today, who is a bit of a #luthier himself. Changed the strings to flat wound chromes (my favourite) polished the frets, filed the nut (actual bone nut) to get it a bit more even. Had to open up the B string’s slot in the nut because the flat wound B was a tiny bit fatter than the original. Made sure it had good contact with the zero fret.

Intonation is good. Action feels great. It’s a better instrument than I deserve. Gotta get better at playing!

It plays like a whole new #bass. I’m super pleased.

It's been a while, so time for a new #intro :

I am a scientist at the meteo institute of Norway (MET Norway). I live in #Oslo . I work on #satellite, #climate and #SeaIce, with various institutions like #ESA and #EUMETSAT.

The banner pic of my profile is an artist view of a satellite flying above our Earth. This is the European CIMR satellite that will fly in the early 2030s.

I am trying to be better at #OpenScience, #music, and #Bass / #BassGuitar .

I post in English, French, and Norwegian.

I am @lavergnetho on Loops too. 👋

I've been playing #bass for about 2 years. I have never bought a bass myself. The one I'm learning on is one I bought 5 years ago for my son (who didn't take it up).

So I bought my first bass today and can't wait for it to arrive. Custom built by a luthier. 32-inch scale, 5-string. I am dying to get some low Cs and low Ds.
