Ah, the semiannual vague-threat/browbeating email from the administration telling us that--despite said administration's nearly rabid refusal to consider the possibility of paying faculty according to the number of hours they work--we have to work a certain number of hours. Or rather the administration wants us to.

Let's see their tactics this semester:

  • Students have a right to take their final exam at the arbitrary time scheduled by some office on campus? What right is that? Is it up there with trans rights, civil rights, and other inalienable ones? Where and how was this right decided?

  • Students are at a "decided disadvantage" when a prof gives them an exam a couple of days early! Wow. That's big news. Disadvantaged in what way? Research, please.

  • The old standby "expected." This is where admins want to say "required" or "mandated" but the union has won court cases saying there are no particular days or hours we need to be on campus, except actual class sessions (and here are exceptions for illness, etc., though the admins are working to eliminate those).

  • It's an "Approved final exam policy", all right. Approved by administrators and a committee/working group with key members appointed by administrators. Those administrators really do not like democratic processes, but they like to pretend their mandates (I mean expectations) are democratically driven.

I hate being in a weird post stress mode. My face & eyes feel like I've spent half the day crying when I haven't. I also feel like anything could tip me over emotionally for no reason.

Not knowing when I'll snap out of it as I can't communicate properly when I'm locked into this , I don't know, major stress incident aftermath mode.

I think maybe my depression got a power boost or two or three & I got the opposite. Would love to crawl under a rock but that would mean, getting changed, going out into the world & finding a suitable rock. I can't face going out.

The Hidden Toll of Disasters

#Hurricanes, #wildfires, #pandemics, and other crises disrupt lives in unexpected ways. Survivors may experience #anxiety, #depression, #grief, and even post-traumatic stress disorder #PTSD. Vulnerable populations, including #children and #olderadults, often struggle the most. Meanwhile, #firstresponders face cumulative #stress, increasing the risk of #burnout and secondary #trauma.

I felt "energized" for a full 1h after waking up today. Took a walk with the dog. Nice, calm, cool. He had a little unleached run and I cheered him on.

Getting home I suddenly feel exhausted again. Like I'verun a marathon. Oh well, still better to have a hint of energy at some point during the day than none at all. I am sitting up in the couch rather than being horizontal all day. Good sign.

*get into work*

*plan day, literally book entire day to do work with only a few short breaks*

*perform work*

*get exhausted, executive dysfunction starts to act up*

*coffee to shut executive dysfunction up*

*keep working hard through the whole day*

*leave work, caffeine wears off*

*huge bout of exec dys and possible shutdown*

"Why is this happening to me"

John Cleese voice:

Right! Spoons. I'm getting sick & tired of you all melting at the first sign of having to do something, even something as simple as clearing up your own mess.
Now, I want you to pull yourselves together, get changed for setting foot outside the house & then proceeding to get on with the task set.

Are we clear?

Me giving myself a mental pep talk.

How Millennials Became The Burnout Generation

Selten hat mich, auch Millennial, ein Artikel so dermaßen mitgenommen wie dieser.
Dass sich die Situation seit 2019 sogar noch verschärft hat, ist dort auch noch angedeutet worden.

I may have mentioned this before, but I'm not much into racing games. There are some exceptions though...
While browsing my PSP games earlier, I stumbled upon Burnout - Dominator. I played maybe half an hour, but it's just as fun as I remember. I loved the #Burnout games on the PS2 and PSP. 🤩
People seem to really like Burnout Paradise, but I never managed to put more than a few minutes into it. I found the open world an absolute chore to navigate. I somehow prefer to select my events from a menu. 😅

#burnout #burnoutrecovery
