ID The SeaIndo-Pacific Sergeant (Abudefduf vaigiensis) – This bold and striking damselfish is a familiar sight in tropical reefs across the Indo-Pacific. Recognizable by its five black vertical bars on a silvery-white body with a yellowish tinge on the upper back, it closely resembles the Atlantic Sergeant Major (A. saxatilis). Often found in shallow lagoons and reef flats, these fish are highly territorial and known for their aggressive defense of nesting sites. They feed on algae, plankton, and small invertebrates, sometimes forming large, fast-moving schools. Their adaptability has even allowed them to spread to non-native regions, making them a fascinating species to observe! These are fun fish, they’re active and NOT shy! Species #001!
