Having had an longtail and *then* a bakfiets aka "box bike" has been a slightly backwards journey from what's probably typical for bike parents, but I doubt we would have ridden the infants around in the suburbs and the longtail is way more agile, squeezing between stopped car traffic and bumping up a curb is maybe doable without putting a foot down (if it's 6in or less for me), vs being a matter of leverage and quite an ordeal with the box bike.

A2 unless your bike has rack-mounting designed into the head tube, probably not. I think xtracycle and radpower say 50lb for their fixed front racks. I might put 50lb on this contraption on my zigo but it starts to pull on the handlebar. Davey Oil once built this head tube extension for an xtracycle with -- wish I could get one for a suspension fork.

Riding the 2014 bbs02 more often lately, thinking maybe I should get a motor for the rear of it, possibly a new bigger battery and update some parts. It's just such a dependable old truck but the rear is a little flexible when youngest+spouse are both on it. 11yo prefers the / & 13yo is too heavy to not be pedaling so we end up on the tandem more. Crowded in the garage though

Current state of the "" / setup, if the kids' bike tire wedges into the cargo rails, you don't need to strap it at the bottom. It's best with 3 good points of contact on the wheel and the fork to be able to pivot. Experimenting on this strut/compression bit: the white PVC won't survive outside, going to be grey, but needs a different arrangement of the strap to draw tight, (and some rubber on the ends?)
