@hennichodernich @puppygirlhornypost2 seriously, you're immediately part of the @gnuradio community if you want to.
I think we were never really active on reddit; our home was the annual GRCon (all talks on youtube!), the mailing list, and: our chat server!
As it happens we have a room especially for #hamradio discussions, matrix.to/#/#HamRadio:gnuradio , but just the general #gnuradio:gnuradio.org chat room is super welcoming to everyone and their radio-affine cat :)
Need something to stim you into …

@M0CUV My amateur understanding is that only a #licenced #radio #ham is, e.g. in Germany, allowed to transmit at higher power than the 500 mW ( = 27 dBm ) allowed by all; but then in that case only without encryption. Therefore if you stick to the "public" power parameters ( loramesh.org/#settings ) , a #lora mesh is fine with encryption. Some info is put together here loramesh.org/#law
I would be very glad to hear of more links with information.

Wow, the latest IJV firmware for the #Quansheng UV-K5(8) is incredible! It Has A Bazillion Options(tm)! What would be even more awesome is Quansheng seeing what what’s been facilitated here, and producing an open handheld of a little higher spec, with switchable band filters and PA that gives a good output at HF too. They could OWN #HamRadio with that.

Decided to build a more permanent version of the ‘Coastal 20’ non-resonant multiband. I’m surprised how well it works 😃

It’s not exactly meant for QRO, but that doesn’t matter, I’m mostly QRP, hardly ever above 10-20Watts.

Can’t wait to play with 17 and 12m, it’s quite rare I visit those bands 🙂

So apparently, they are migrating P25 and NXDN reflector lists away from GitHub and on to DVRef.com. That's all fine and good, except they have a recently implemented policy that is just plain absurd... The requirement to manually revalidate your reflectors once every 30 days or lose them. Seriously?! Like what the f***?!! Are they out of their f***ing minds?!!! Some of us tried talking sense into them, but they won't listen. This absurd policy is just plain stupid!

In the event you don't know (you probably do but others may not) ... you have no license currently as it's expired.

When you take the Tech exam, make sure you take evidence of your previous Amateur Extra class license and you will get a new license at that level when the FCC processes the application (assuming the FCC exists when you test ...)

I think it's time to go for an amateur radio license. It's something I've thought about in the past, but not very seriously, until now.

I have no experience with it. So, not sure where to start other than to get a license and go from there.
