Scott 🏴😷<p>I have seen transphobic stuff said on Fosstodon, report having gone unresponded to. Guess where the pewdiepie fan I just blocked came from? Yup.</p><p>This is only a little bit of evidence, and a lot of people would say I'm going overboard, but I've also seen it talked about from other people and the impression I get is that the people who run Fosstodon just want to think about FOSS software and want to plug their ears and say "la la la I can't hear you" when it comes to "politics".</p><p>To me, that stance would be enough to get the block from this server if it was a small instance, because I know the sort of bigotry that can be got up to when the moderation team takes a hands-off approach and a neutral stance on genocidal politics.</p><p>but</p><p>Fosstodon is fully 6% of my followers. Several individual people who I really appreciate having a connection to are just white men nerds who wouldn't necessarily be opposed to the bigotry coming out of that instance. But the few people are nothing on the amount of Free Software projects who have hitched themselves to Fosstodon.</p><p><a href="https://tams.tech/tags/LineageOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LineageOS</span></a> <br>The <a href="https://tams.tech/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a> Software Foundation<br><a href="https://tams.tech/tags/AlpineLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AlpineLinux</span></a><br><a href="https://tams.tech/tags/i3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>i3</span></a><br><a href="https://tams.tech/tags/CalyxOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CalyxOS</span></a><br><a href="https://tams.tech/tags/AntennaPod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AntennaPod</span></a><br><a href="https://tams.tech/tags/Pipewire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pipewire</span></a><br><a href="https://tams.tech/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a></p><p>This is a part of the fediverse that is both incredibly important as a space that has sown itself in toxic soil and put down deep roots. I just don't know what to do about it.</p>
Lett Osprey :v_pan: :v_enby: :therian:<p>Decided to remove <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> and go for the "simple" <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a>, and ditch the idea of running <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/i3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>i3</span></a> or <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/sway" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sway</span></a> WMs on my work laptop. Getting it set up and configured was no issue, and I love the simplicity and elegant customizable UI that i3 / sway gives, but the random crashes, specially related to using external monitors, was too much to deal with.</p><p>The amount of hardware needed to be supported to make these things work on multiple systems is quite impressive, so no bad feelings towards fedora / i3 / sway, this seems linked to Nvidia and non-open drivers.</p><p>As Ubuntu is the "official linux" for <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Lenovo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lenovo</span></a>, that became the option, and GNOME is the default "tried and tested" there. </p><p>Letting go of i3 for Gnome was not an easy choice. But so far I have found tips &amp; tricks to turn Gnome into something "i3 like", and I have now most of my keyboard bindings mapped. I need a better rofi (pop up menu) replacement, and a couple more things,. but I will get there.</p><p>Ubuntu/Gnome handle multi monitor / screen switching well, yay.</p>
Kai<p>In i3 I had an option to hide the title bar if there was only one tab. I suspect it works different in Sway.</p><p>Apparently in the past there was `hide_edge_borders lone_tab`, but that doesn't work anymore. Which probably makes sense, since I don't think `hide_edge_borders` was about the title bar in the first place.</p><p>Could someone tell me how to hide the title bar for lone tabs in Sway?</p><p><a href="https://github.com/swaywm/sway/pull/3767" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/swaywm/sway/pull/37</span><span class="invisible">67</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/sway" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sway</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/i3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>i3</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/askfedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>askfedi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
