😀🚲The 11yo is now regularly cooking their own pasta with the <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/induction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#induction</a> hob, and wow is that a lot less for a parent to worry about than the hot electric stovetop or an open gas flame (it's still scalding hot water though, make sure they know how to manage it.) There is even a timer setting so it just turns off if you forget. Also, I highly recommend raising a self-feeding child 😌

😀🚲I'm thinking the air fryer may be a better electric replacement for the wok than an <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/induction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#induction</a> cooktop (with a flat-bottom steel wok). It's not that the induction doesn't get hot enough, it seems like the issue is that the water stays in the food longer (e.g. roasting carrots, beets, eggplant, zuchini - they either burn or turn to mush.) How much of cooking over gas is the air movement of the column of waste heat?

😀🚲Looking at <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/induction" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#induction</a> hotplate / <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/hobs" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#hobs</a> from across the pond to see what they manage with 240V and it's a bit underwhelming (2000W seems to be all you can get for under $100, except you can get two elements on one plug...😒), not much different than options in the US, with 240V plugs running 3000W starts at $200+. Is there some cliff in the electronics, scaling the power output of one element?
