As an add on to the post above, if you don't think speaking out against Israel's genocide in Gaza and on behalf of the people being slaughtered there matters, then why is the Netanyahu government working so hard with multi-billion dollar social media companies like Meta to suppress pro-Palestinian speech online?

"A sweeping crackdown on posts on Instagram and Facebook that are critical of Israel—or even vaguely supportive of Palestinians—was directly orchestrated by the government of Israel, according to internal Meta data obtained by Drop Site News. As I've noted elsewhere, it's very clear that the pro-genocide Pig Empire establishment used the sham ceasefire Trump supposedly brokered in Gaza as an excuse to reset the discourse and resume the genocide at pace. We've returned to a pre-2024 media environment of silence and minimization of crimes against humanity, particularly in America, and these folks are working overtime to keep you from talking about, and hopefully (for genocidal monsters) thinking about Gaza while Israel attempts to wipe out the Palestinians there before we wake up and realize what's going on.

The only way to fight this, is to keep talking about it, and resisting both the genocide and the US government's support for it. We've been here before and broke through the cone of silence; in fact that's the whole reason the ruling class establishment is trying to rewind the discourse around the genocide in Gaza to a pre-2024 state. We must not let them get away with it by contributing to that cone of silence.

@linuxfoundation To portray #Meta and #Zuckerberg as friends of #OpenSource is ridiculous, not to mention their alleged "OSS" #AI models. They are neither #OSS (where are the sources and the training data), nor is it free. An entire region - the #EuropeanUnion - is explicitly forbidden to use this "OSS" model. And we know that millions of books have been illegally processed without the authors' consent

I'm frankly disappointed that Jim Zemlin seems to be just repeating Meta's marketing rhetoric

@Bundesregierung Ich bin ganz ehrlich, mit jeder Art von Service, die von Plattformen wie die von #meta, #google, #apple und co kommen macht man sich hier keine Freunde. Die sind genau der Grund warum das #fediverse überhaupt existiert, dass man sich eben nicht mit solchen Monopolisten abgeben muss.

Allerdings rechne ich Euch Eure Antwort hoch an, wir sind ja auch gar nicht böse hier, sondern helfen wo wir können. Wir sind hier ja nicht bei #twitter oder #facebook ;)

Those "device signals" sound geeky, but they enable #Meta to build a social graph. If you're often near the same WiFi access points as someone else during school hours then the two of you probably know each other and have certain similarities. If you're connected to the same WiFi access points as someone else during the evening then you're probably family. If two devices connect to the same Bluetooth earbuds then you probably own them both, and #Meta can tie together your activity on both devices to build a more detailed picture of you. Remember, unless you actively take steps to block it, Meta follows you around the Web and watches over your shoulder.

The whole thing is as creepy as hell, and no one should use it.

Meta must change its surveillance advertising model.
