Calling the diorama finished. I just need to leave it alone now. Don't mess with it, think of new things to add to it, add more drybrushing to the waves. And definitely. No. Seagulls.

This is going into the island Open Exhibition. I never thought of myself as an artist before, and it'll be sat alongside photographers, knitters, painters, and the like. Which is weird. But I feel pretty pleased. I learnt some stuff. I made some mistakes. I had fun.

Modelling is the art of bringing entailment structures into congruence. The essence of an art is that it rests on the heuristic, the unentailed, the intuitive leap. … Theoretical scientists are more artists than artisans. … There is no right or wrong in art, only similarities and differences, the congenial and the uncongenial.

So it did seep a little, and the resin made contact with the foam on the side and bottom edges, which I didn't seal in the same way as the sand.

Seal everything with PVA. Then seal it some more. ALL THE SEALING! The exothermic reaction must have got really hot, as it's melted the XPS foam in places where the heat got to it.

So today will be filling holes, finishing the shieldmaiden, and maybe the cliff. Still, success!

We're looking okay this morning. The left side of the dio has bulged a bit and the resin seeped down the side (where land would be) but I can sand that back. A few bubbles (as per pic, the extra-shiny bits) on the seaweed but I'm pretty pleased overall. Plus, once i get the water gel on to texture some gentle waves, and touch it up with some white, you won't notice.

The contrasts/differences between actually machining physical material, and, shaping digital models that look like materials keeps throwing me. :D

The type of unconscious patterns that i learned from using machine tools don't always apply correctly when working in the digital domain. :D

Chewy to see the granularity in my internal models of how the universe operates... :D

First ever resin pour. Send thoughts and prayers. 🤣

Assuming it survives the next 72 hours, I need to add waves, finish the cliff, add static grass, build up the sand around the boat, and finish off a couple more miniatures. I have a week before final submission date for the local craft festival...
