The Eyes Galaxies (Arp 120) are a pair of interacting galaxies located in the constellation Virgo, approximately 52 million light-years away. They reach their annual culmination at astronomical midnight and are best observed during spring in the northern hemisphere.

The Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) is a spiral galaxy located about 23 million light-years away in Canes Venatici. It spans approximately 60,000 light-years and features prominent spiral arms with active star formation. M51 is interacting with the smaller galaxy NGC 5195, creating stunning tidal features that enhance its visual appeal.
Mars, Pollux, and Castor lined up nicely next to the moon last night.

Threats to astronomical observatory sites around the world from light pollution are growing, but the existing skyglow standard for site protection dates to nearly a half-century ago. Astronomers are considering a new standard to replace it given advances in lighting technology.
