“Let’s close the road”
“But how do people get to my shop?”
“You will get even more people to your shop”
“But where do they park?”
“Who says they come by car?”
“This must be on a National Day!”
“It is a generic Thursday afternoon at around 6 pm”
“But Amazon and Temu”
“Create a pleasant environment”
Note the right of way of this road vs the green space. One road for local traffic with parking; sidewalks and bike lanes and two through traffic lanes in the centre separated by green space. Easy to cross for all modes of traffic too. Zero traffic lights. And safe enough to take the entire school class for a ride. #ottbike #ottwalk #visionzero #biketooter
Does anyone know if the police monument on #Parliament Hill is accessible? Asking for a reader of my blog who is visiting #Ottawa in spring. The pathway along the river behind the Hill is still slated to open in Spring (that would be this weekend), but I am guessing it will be closer to June than two days from now without having been there.
Road vs path conditions yesterday afternoon in #Ottawa. Does the City value active transportation or is it lip service ‘when the budget allows it’? The pathway to the mall is impassable. Pathways are important shortcuts and safe ways to get to places and bus stops for those who don’t own cars. Note in the last picture, you can see the mall actually ploughs to the end of their property. #ottbike #ottwalk #biketooter
Pretty annoyed that the NCC is reducing the number of hours the Kitigan Zībī Mikan will be open for people outside of cars this summer.
Afternoon rides to Remic Rapids with my eldest were a highlight of last summer. Now it will be given over to drivers at noon.
The MUPs are overcapacity during the warm months, this will increase conflict between people walking, running and biking. An embodiment of fighting over the scraps while a 4-lane highway along the river goes to a few drivers.
I hate it.
It takes *this much effort* to get a path or two cleared for kids to walk to school in winter in #Ottawa sadly. If it had been a road, every single media outlet in Ottawa would have car owners complaining, there would be petition, Lisa McLeod would think something of it and a mob of drivers would be at city hall. This city.....
I wrote a short blog about cycling infrastructure we recently saw in #Aveiro, #Portugal, a flat coastal town south of #Porto. We were there in October last year and enjoyed the small town feel.
I can totally see it as an alternative for #Canadian #Snowbirds who are reconsidering their sun destinations #ottbike #velo #velotaf #ottwalk #BikeTooter

Yesterday’s conditions near us in #Ottawa: some good and some bad stuff. Snow dump on the entrance to a park, a snow plow operator consistently blocking a shortcut with snow, a well plowed side walk, buried #bike racks at a rental place. #biketooter #ottwalk #ottbike
I think I may need to buy tall rubber boots given the forecast next week in #ottawa If you think hard packed / bumpy and lumpy sidewalks and intersections suck now, next week is going be fucking horrible. The salt / brine water is also going to absolutely wreck bikes #biketooter #ottbike #ottwalk #ontario #winter

Turns out wearing hi vis isn't always better for #pedestrians! #selfdriving #OttWalk

@casseagull at the DCA meeting last night, some people thought the sign at the top of this post meant that pedestrians are supposed to walk on the left side of the pathway. #OttWalk #OttBike
Trying to call 311 to report a pedestrian safety hazard and the #OttCity system just told me to call back on a weekday during business hours and hung up on me. Traffic signals issues can't be reported online (last I checked). What a terrible disservice - and hazard! - to the citizens of #Ottawa. How many people will give up trying to report hazards when they encounter this! #OttWalk #OttBike
Over a year without a safe, winter-maintained cycling detour on the Trillium pathway around Dow's Lake LRT Station, it looks like we are getting close to having it back - and an upgraded fully segregated facility!

I called 311 a week or so back to report a sidewalk on a busy street blocked by construction, and instead of sending it to a traffic inspector to ensure there was a safe pedestrian detour, they sent it to bylaw who called me back today to let me know they had a permit for construction! HOW CAN THIS CITY CARE LESS ABOUT PEDESTRIANS!? #OttWalk #OttRoll
