I am feeling blessed to live in Montgomery County, Maryland. Apart from anything else, MoCo takes parks seriously. There's not just one kind of park. There are lakes, forests, meadows, playgrounds, ball fields, basketball, volleyball (sand) and tennis courts, dog parks, Nature Centers, an archery range, a skate park, a golf course, an ice arena, hiking trails, horse trails, bike trails (on and off road) natural surface trails, a farm park, and a Japanese-inspired garden park called Brookside Gardens. My ex-brother-in-law used to tease me because MoCo had higher taxes than his county. What a dope. All these parks are free to enter and shared by all in the county.

"Like the city’s different arrondissements, each section of walkable track has its own personality and has been approached differently. In some places, paths, nature trails and shared gardens have been created, while others have been left to rewild."

I lament the fact that the City of #Salem budget is in such bad shape that the #libraries, #parks, and #seniorcenter are considered “optional” for funding. But here we are.

Please vote to keep these essential public services open and operating for the next five years. Your “Yes” vote on May 20 for the levy will support jobs and quality of life in Salem.

Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is a short drive from our home in #Memphis, #Tennessee. It has been a welcoming forest for camping and hiking, and we have witnessed countless moonrises from the shores of Poplar Tree Lake in the park. This second-person ode contemplates these experiences and the wisdom gained from knowing this special place in western Tennessee.
