Mike LeeFloating the Sacramento River in early April, I brought along my 720nm infrared filter to capture the spring foliage in a different light—literally. With a full-spectrum camera and reversed red/blue channels in post, the newly leafed deciduous trees glow in near-white, contrasting beautifully with the stark, lifeless snags.<br> <br> This quiet moment, with my son casting for trout nearby, turned into an unexpectedly poetic capture—life and death frozen in IR.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/InfraredPhotography?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#InfraredPhotography</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SacramentoRiver?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SacramentoRiver</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/NatureContrast?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NatureContrast</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SpringFoliage?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SpringFoliage</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SurrealLandscape?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SurrealLandscape</a>
Mike LeeAfter floating the Sacramento River with my son, I couldn’t resist photographing the Sundial Bridge—but not in the usual way.<br> <br> This is a deep infrared shot at 830nm, far beyond visible light. No color here—just bold contrast, black skies, white foliage, and the dramatic elegance of Calatrava’s design cutting across the frame.<br> <br> The Sundial Bridge is more than beautiful—it’s functional and environmentally sensitive. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2004, it spans the river without disturbing the salmon below. Its 217-ft pylon doubles as a sundial and supports the entire structure via cable-stay, all while looking like a piece of modern sculpture.<br> <br> Shot in IR to cut through the cliché and capture something timeless.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/InfraredPhotography?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#InfraredPhotography</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SundialBridge?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SundialBridge</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/BlackAndWhitePhoto?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#BlackAndWhitePhoto</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/Calatrava?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Calatrava</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/SacramentoRiver?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SacramentoRiver</a>
