Per Sal Mercogliano, a maritime historian & former merchant mariner, who studies shipping, there was an uptick in shipments from China to the USA at the end of last year. I guess Trump's rhetoric on tariffs did create a surge in buying. (I know it did for me on a personal level. I'm not a reseller, though.) The impact on "empty shelves" may not be felt right away. Also, ships are still coming here from China even w the tariffs. #shipping

Cleaner shipping fuel is now mandatory as the Mediterranean becomes a low-emissions zone.

Ships in the Mediterranean must now use cleaner fuel with lower sulphur content, as the sea on Thursday becomes the world’s fifth low-emissions zone.

Reducing sulphur emissions is expected to improve air and water quality and benefit human and environmental health.

What’s really going on with shipping? You might have read that the ports are empty and no more ships will be arriving after such-n-such a date.

I gotta tell ya, there’s more than a smidge of bullshit in those posts. I’m not saying shortages won’t happen. I’m not saying corporations won’t be price gouging as much as they can.

It does look like the number of ships and how much is loaded on them is *down*.
