Samuel Annesley, Puritan minister, describes Christian duites to the poor. Duty to children does not permit taking away from your duty to the poor. Some hoard for children at risk of their own eternal good.

Is this advice on the lips of your local, contemporary Puritan scholar (or conference attendee)?

How can you consider your part towards the relief of the poor?

SAMUEL ANNESLEY (1620?-1696) "AFTER WHAT MEANS MUST WE GIVE TO THE POOR?" "It is a great mistake in Parents, that because it is their Duty to make some provision for their children, therefore they are bound to lay up all that possibly they can scrape together for their use, without giving any considerable part towards the relief of the poor; for thereby they manifestly declare that they prefer their childrens' temporal good, before their own spiritual and eternal good, and hazard the salvation of their own souls, for the advancement of their children's estate."
