Applications have opened for (Algo|Afro) Futures 2025!

(Algo|Afro) Futures is a mentoring programme for early career UK-based Black artists who want to explore creative coding and live coding.

Live coding is a performative practice where artists and musicians use code to create live music and live visuals. This is often done at electronic dance music events called Algoraves, but live coding is a technique rather than a genre, and has also been applied to noise music, choreography, live cinema, and many other time-based artforms.

(Algo|Afro) Futures will take place between June - July at Vivid Projects and will consist of five workshops and a live performance in August.

Up to six participants will receive mentorship from Antonio Roberts @hellocatfood and Tyger Blue @tygerblue

Each participant is supported by an access bursary of up to £500.

This opportunity is open for Black UK-based artists only. The call is open from 10th April until 23:59 on 5th May BST.

Further information about the programme, FAQs and the application form itself can be found here algo-afro-futures.lurk.org #creativecoding #livecoding #algorave #strudel #hydra #

(Algo|Afro) Futures presents the return of the Creative Coding Circles for 2025! These will be a series of free relaxed and casual meetups for Black artists and musicians interested in learning about live coding for music and visuals.

Across three sessions beginning 25th March and taking place at Vivid Projects in Birmingham, UK we will be sampling beginner-friendly programming languages for live coding music and visuals, including Strudel, Hydra and VCV Rack.

This is a great opportunity to network with other creatives, make new connections, and learn about creative coding together in a safe and inclusive environment. This is also a great way to sample live coding ahead of the relaunch of the (Algo|Afro) Futures mentoring programme later this year.

These sessions will be led by (Algo|Afro) Futures founder Antonio Roberts @hellocatfood and Tyger Blue @tygerblue

Sign up details for each session to follow soon.

Electronic Music Open Mic night tonight in Newcastle!
I'm expecting to have a 15 minute slot at 8pm to do some #Strudel noodling. Apart from a 5-minute shared-stage newcomer thing at Peckham Digital, this'll be my first live music performance, and the first solo.
'Intimidated' is the word, but 'excited' is another one 😄
There are 8 slots in total, so there'll be some good variety, and last time broadly very decent quality, with a couple of stellar acts.
