Justine SmithiesAnyone else running a <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=wayland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Wayland</a> WM under <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=wlroots" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Wlroots</a> and it freezes your computer to the point that nothing works not even switching TTY ? I thought it was <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=riverwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RiverWM</a> related but it happens with <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=swaywm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SwayWM</a> too. If I don't start a Wayland session my computer is fine all day. But under Wayland I'm starting to get these random freezes like twice a day and the only cure is to hold the power button. I mean I'm tempted to revert back to X11 for stability so any info or ideas would be gratefully received. Oh and I'm running <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=freebsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FreeBSD</a> too.<br>
Justine SmithiesSome window managers do have that facility under Wayland. I'm running <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=riverwm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RiverWM</a> and it has also I know <a href="https://snac.smithies.me.uk?t=swaywm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SwayWM</a> has too. There are most likely unclutter type progs too but I've not searched ?<br>

I have not looked back. I absolutely love it. I can't believe that I have an opinion on such a thing, but.... dnf is a joy to use.</p>

Soblow Xaselgio :dragn_heart:<p>Okay, time to summon DuckDuckFedi.</p><p>I have a program that is running on my sway session (so, Wayland, more precisely XWayland).<br>I use <code>ydotool</code> to run some keystrokes.<br>Everything works fine as-is, but it means that I can't use the computer for anything else as the keystrokes are sent to the active window.</p><p>Do you know if there is a way to create a kind of "virtual keyboard/input device" attached to said application which I could use for the keystrokes? Some kind of containers or something?</p><p>Thank you for your ideas! I&#39;ve got a lot of other initiatives to pursue besides tuning my desktop. </p><p>Still, plenty of interesting ideas in <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Hyprland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Hyprland</span></a>. Besides that it has a plugin system, I liked that you can add formal descriptions of your keybindings and then introspect them via API.</p><p>Beginner <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/SwayWM" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SwayWM</span></a> users have long been interested in a way to search and run their key bindings.</p>
Mark Stosberg<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://tech.lgbt/@reallychris" class="u-url mention">@<span>reallychris</span></a></span> Do you remember some of the reasons you switched from <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Hyprland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Hyprland</span></a> to <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Swaywm" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Swaywm</span></a> ?</p>
Mark Stosberg<p>Today I&#39;m working on translating my <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/swaywm" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>swaywm</span></a> config over to <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/hyprland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hyprland</span></a> to give that a try. There are a few things I&#39;m looking forward to trying:</p><p>1. Easy motion plugin to switch to windows directly via keyboard. <a href="https://github.com/zakk4223/hyprland-easymotion" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/zakk4223/hyprland-e</span><span class="invisible">asymotion</span></a><br />2. Drop shadows for floating windows for better contrast with the background without adding a border to them.<br />3. Being able to set a description for keybinding and introspect them. </p><p>I&#39;m a happy Sway user, but we&#39;ll see if this scratches some itches.</p>
Mark Stosberg<p>My desktop environment, Sway on Linux, allows me to control it completely via keyboard including window management, navigation and launching apps. Here&#39;s how I set that up for myself to work with tiny keyboard with no number row. </p><p><a href="https://mark.stosberg.com/sway-keybindings/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mark.stosberg.com/sway-keybind</span><span class="invisible">ings/</span></a></p><p>There may be some more discussion over on Lemmy: <a href="https://lemmy.world/post/15125356" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">lemmy.world/post/15125356</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/tiling" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>tiling</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/swaywm" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>swaywm</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/sway" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sway</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>keyboard</span></a></p>
