Fast fashion items overwhelm Sweden's recycling centres.

Sweden's recycling centres are overflowing with clothes after an EU-wide ban this year on throwing away textiles, leaving overwhelmed municipalities eager to have fast fashion giants take responsibility.

Swedes throw away 90000 tonnes of textiles per year, or 10kg per person. The EU average is 19kg, according to 2022 statistics, up from 17 in 2019.

Talking about dyeing with plants... Here is the easiest way to get a nice plant print on fabric. Toddler shirts with unexplainable stains made me try to put more stains on those shirts to prolong their life just a bit. I'm trying to use everything while it lasts and reuse, recycle and upcycle to last a little longer, waste less, buy less. I hate to throw out those perfectly usable shirts that just look terribly dirty because of plant, fruit and berry stains that happens in enormous amounts for kids who live outdoors whole summer long. Well, pretty plant stains put on shirts with the hammer stay pretty for about 3-4 times in the washing machine.

I was dreaming to hammer plants on a table cloth last summer, but I didn't get there. This is an easy way to get the juices of plants on textiles you aren't planning to wash too often. Doll fabrics, a tie, maybe... altar cloths?

It's also a productive way to release anger, frustration and agression. I hope you will give it a try.

'The Scottish Register of Tartans has reached a significant milestone as it added the ten thousandth tartan design to its database.

The milestone design was the 131 Argyle tartan, registered by the Diocesan Boys’ School of Hong Kong. The tartan celebrates the school’s long history since its founding in in 1869.'

The #GatherFiberSymposium got noticed by the local media! We were psyched that they invited our lace group in to their month of fiber art celebrations. There are a ton of great events going on.

More details from The Boston Globe (or search archive.youknow for an unpaywalled version).
