I often had such people. Weeks later they came back: Please can you repair our text, we used the secretary's son and his aunt, and Deepl, and now we get so miserable reviews! (Of course, also nope.)
A freelance role with fixed days/hours is not freelance. It's a job without a pension or statutory sick pay.
I keep reading about how #genAI is destroying #art #communities and #coders losing their jobs. I used to work as a #translator and a lot of language professionals are losing their jobs too. Wondering where this will lead in the end. I mean, are we just going to sit and watch how things go downhill? Because I also read how bad #AI handles all sorts of tasks and how it always requires a human to fix it. In translation, post-editing an AI translated text is absolutely necessary. 1/2

The site anythingtranslate.com is so far the only site I've found that can do English to Mandinka translation.
I want to help a friend in the Gambia set up his phone such that he can switch the keyboard from English to Mandinka (the symbols in Mandinka are not in the same alphabet).
Czech, please! GBIF.org adds support for another Slavic language!

Hey, fellow translators and interpreters in the US (and other sympathetic parties), can we maybe start a chat somewhere to talk about ways to push back against the idea of making English the official language? We‘re uniquely positioned to address this kind of thing, and I have a really bad feeling that it‘s only going to erode support for language services in courtrooms, hospitals, and elsewhere to the point that lots of people who need us are going to be very badly fucked over.
