Final port on this cruise, Aberdeen today. We took a trip to Crathes Castle & Gardens and it was very enjoyable with lovely weather to go with it. We'd planned to spend some time in Aberdeen afterwards but I've aggravated my strained calf muscle again so we've been sensible and got back on the ship. A shame, because Aberdeen looked very interesting architecturally. Sea day tomorrow before the cruise concludes Sunday morning.

It's a bright, sunny day and we're in formal gardens. We're standing on a narrow path of irregular grey paving stones that leads between two beds of white flowers around calf-height to a circular paved section bordered by dense bushes given some topiary treatment to smooth their curved sides and flatten their tops. In the centre of this space is a tree with wide trunk and thick branches supporting more topiary. The densely-packed leaves are cut to form a hemisphere of greenery that contrasts with the bright blue sky.

We're in Aberdeen today, the last port before returning home on Sunday. A castle visit will be occurring a little later.

We didn't catch any aurora from our land-based opportunities but in the early hours of the morning a couple of nights ago, staggering back to bed after the nightclub, from our balcony we got a very good show at sea with colours visible to the naked eye.

Taken at night from a ship, looking across the mostly black water with a beam of reflected light from a low crescent moon on the right. Around the glow of the moon there is a soft, green blanket of light in a wide ribbon over the moon and more detailed swirls to the moon's left. A few dots of stars are in the sky but they're stretched slightly because it's a slow photo on a moving vessel.
