Whirlwinds of snow out there. There's now half a meter of snow on the deck, just from this morning.
Redpolls finding shelter under a bench behind a snowdrift. Few seeds for them: it's too windy, the seeds just blow away or get buried in the snow.

I've been feeding a family of badgers through the years.
Recently my trap cam caught 2 youngsters & the mum coming to the garden.
I braved the freezing night air to stand and watch last night, It was so amazing to see, only one turned up but I'll try again tonight, hopefully it'll be a full turn out

It was cold, about -25°C and strong wind. But it was so beautiful 10 km hike and the one hike where I fell in love with winter hiking.
Last night, a friend organised a nighttime bike ride on the ice road to the neighbouring village of Dettah. It's about 6.5km across the frozen bay. It was quite slippery on the glare ice, even with studded tires, so we went at a leisurely pace and chatted away. When we got to Dettah, as if on cue, the #aurora erupted into a dancing, swirling riot of colour. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen, which I hope comes across in these low res. photos. We stood enrapt in our bike helmets, or lay back on the ice to save our craning necks until it settled down into a placid glow in the distance before biking back to town.
