“She’s been so weak that the Tufts team is using straps to help her get up when she’s done resting, because she doesn’t quite have the strength to do it herself,” [MSPCA’s Kaycie McCarthy] said. “We believe she’ll be strong enough to move to Nevins #Farm this week, but it’ll be months before she’s ready to start looking for a new home.”

While at Nevins, Astrid will need to be on a refeeding plan to get her to a healthy weight, and we’ll help her learn socialization as well. We expect she’ll need months of care before she’ll be ready to find her new home, and we’ll post updates on our socials as they’re available, so stay tuned

She’s been recovering at the Hospital for Large #Animals at Tufts, where she’s been wearing pants to cover the sores. She’s also being treated for pneumonia and parasites. Astrid’s been weak and needed help getting up from her rests, but we’re hopeful we can move her to Nevins Farm in #Methuen this week 2/

NEW: This is Astrid, a nearly two-year-old Percheron filly who was surrendered to us on March 7 as part of an ongoing MSPCA Law Enforcement investigation. She was emaciated and had sores on her body, which is something that often happens when horses are down for a prolonged period of time 1/

Babe is a five-year-old #potbelly at Nevins #Farm who loves laying around his pen and munching on snacks (who doesn’t?). He takes a bit to warm up to new people, but once he does, he loves hanging out together!
