I’m currently at five years with my iPhone 11 Pro. I’ll probably upgrade (and deApple) by the end of the year.
“Back Market and iFixit are partnering to encourage consumers to keep their phones in service for at least five years—and to pressure manufacturers to extend smartphone support to 10 years.”

@iFixit goes cooking
Top Sache :D
New day - new Raspberry Pi brought back to life
This one probably fell down because it had no shorts, all voltages from DA9090 were present, but it didn’t start most of the time - it did once but then I spent quite some time trying to figure out where is our issue.
Reflowing CPU and RAM chips must have helped

If the #tariffs stick, microsoldering and board repair is about to become a *highly* valuable skill. Consumer #electronics are going to get a helluva lot more expensive and simultaneously supply will go down, that coupled with an overall recession means people will hold onto their devices longer and choose to get them repaired instead of replaced.
Yep, the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will probably still drift because Nintendo isn't using Hall effect sensors. So, if you were thinking about upgrading, it might make more sense to swap out the joysticks in your current Joy-Cons. It's easier than you might think—and a lot more affordable.

I just did a "poor man's" repair to my laptop's keyboard.
Some keys were no longer responding normally to key presses. "R" was the worst.
I pulled the "R" keycap off the keyboard. I cleaned the switch underneath and put it back, but it was still not working well. If I tapped the switch directly without the keycap, it worked fine. I figured tolerances must have gone off somewhere, so I slapped 4 layers of masking tape under the keycap. It works much better now. I also did the "E". I have other keys to do, but I'm taking a break from the repair to consider my options, and see whether what I've done holds up.
I do welcome advice regarding the use of alternative material rather than masking tape for this fix.
I used this article:

This #WITDay, we're celebrating Martine Postma. She's the activist and former journalist who started the Repair Café movement.
“I wanted to do more than just write about it,” Postma says. “More and more people don’t feel good about our throw-away society and are ready for change. [They] don’t throw away because they want to, but because they don’t know what else to do.”

Ah ha ha ha lolsob #ifixit just sent me a happy one year anniversary email, which means that the computer I was working on last year is still not fixed and it's been sitting on my workbench for a year now. Smart.
