city creek in Petersburg today. it’s been a very wet spring but also with low snow levels, until now. looks like temps are finally high enough at elevation for a major rain on snow event though it still feels cold at sea level #MyAlaskaWx

Downtown Fairbanks Saturday 630am: Mostly sunny, very slight breeze, 35F (1.7C). #MyAlaskaWx
6:00AM: 42F, cloudy.
Folks, I blush to say it, but Sitka has crushed our SE hamlets' rain competition.
In the past 24 hours, Sitka has had 1.38" of rain.
Ketchikan, the perennial favorite, only clocked a measly .70"
We're number 1!
I also feel guilty that I bashed on Mother Nature. Looks like only clouds this morning with no rain falling on our wee flea market.
Good news for the fisher folk whose main aim is spinning "the one that got away" fish tales.
Looks like a lot of convective popcorn south of Fairbanks. No lightning yet… #myalaskawx
Downtown Fairbanks Friday 600am: Sunny, slight breeze, 36F (2.2C). #MyAlaskaWx
5:45AM: 47F, overcast.
In an act of ultimate betrayal, Ma Nature is bringing "more organized" bands of precipitation through Saturday. Oh yeah - some "breeze" also.
Rain on Saturday, mainly before 10.
I'll be setting up for the Fisherman's Flea Market by 8AM. Sigh.
At least I'll be under a canopy while I sell treats to fisher folk.
I think Mother and I need to talk.
Downtown Fairbanks Thursday 600am: Sunny, very slight breeze, 33F (0.6C) with a light frost. #MyAlaskaWx
5:45AM: 43F, overcast.
Ye gods...even I'm slightly bored with continued overcast/showers/maybe rain/maybe not forecasts.
So - here's a mink.
Elusive little buggers, but I saw this one down at Crescent Harbor a couple of years ago.
Downtown Fairbanks Wednesday 600am: Partly cloudy, slight breeze, 34F (1.1C). #MyAlaskaWx
5:45AM: 42F, overcast. Rain, rain, rain coming!
You can be forgiven if you are bored with my forecasts. We had some sun yesterday afternoon, which prompted the following comments:
"Turned out to be a nice day, eh?"
"Great to finally see the sun again!"
"Tourists got lucky!"
and a perennial favorite,
"Wonder how long this sucker hole will last?"
Not long, my friends, not long.
Downtown Fairbanks Tuesday 600am: Mostly cloudy, very slight breeze, 40F (4.4C) #MyAlaskaWx
5:45AM: 43F, cloudy-ish.
Showers, high of 50F until Friday, when it is forecast to be a high of 52F, and rain.
We are staging the annual Fisherman's Flea Market this Saturday, from 9 to 12.
Once again I'm hoping the clouds hold their rain until the afternoon.
As much as I sing the praises of rain, you'd think Mother Nature would be up for a little quid pro quo and hold off the few times I ask.
Downtown Fairbanks Monday 600am: Partly cloudy, breezy and was all night. Very mild at 47F (8.3C). #MyAlaskaWx
6:00AM: 49F, light rain & gusty winds.
It didn't rain for the Blessing of the Fleet and Mariners' Memorial yesterday...
....but it was cloudy and COLD.
In my intro, I made that joke that I was happy when we had to postpone from the usual April to May. I had been sure it would be warmer with much better weather.
The crowd truly laughed at that!
Downtown Fairbanks Sunday 615am: Mostly sunny, very slight breeze, 31F (-0.6C) with a light frost. #MyAlaskaWx
5:45AM: 41F, partly cloudy.
Ya'll know what I saw this morning?
A sunrise!
It's been a hot minute.
Hope everyone here is enjoying that sneak peek of the sun. "Rain likely" today and there's a 40kt gale forecast for overnight. We're getting the tail end of a system hitting us broadside later on, although the worst will be up north of us.
RIP ye of the Northern Gulf.
31°F in fog with calm winds at 1650 ft on Keystone Ridge at 7:30am. 3/4” of new wet snow accumulation overnight. #myalaskawx
Last year, on May 3rd, Sitka was the first town in AK to hit 70. It was a new record high for us.
This year we'll be lucky to be the LAST town in AK to hit 60!
Downtown Fairbanks Saturday 600am: light rain, calm, and a seasonal first, a robin chirping. #MyAlaskaWx
6:00AM: 43F, light rain.
Woke up to a covering of sleet that had just fallen.
Again...are we absolutely SURE this isn't Oct/Nov?
Should be a rainy-ish weekend. I hope it stops for about an hour tomorrow. I'm in charge of the Blessing of the Fleet/Mariner's Memorial this Sunday and if we can't have sun, at least let it not be raining!
