I’ve randomly bought these on eBay.

They are Feuerhand Model 275 Baby Lanterns. They just caught my eye and think they look gorgeous.

Can’t wait to get hold of them to see if I can date them. The glass says ‘Made in W. Germany’ so sometime after 1949.

Three things have come to mind with them:

1. Sympathetic restoration i.e. a bit of a tidy up.
2. Full restoration including a respray.
3. Wire in an LED bulb to combine old with new.

Who knows?!

The theme for the 2025/2026 residency is Counter Computing: Alternative Imaginaries.

Lab director Lori Emerson describes it this way: "We are interested in any form of artistic and/or scholarly practice that engages counter-computational practices, such as glitching, hacking, tinkering, queering, subverting, (un)making and (re)imagining. Through such experimentation, we encourage you to explore how our relation to (and imagination of) technology can be remade to envision alternative pasts, presents and futures."

The lab is asking interested parties to submit a proposal for an up-to-4-week residency that includes full access to the lab and its resources, and logistical support. Residents are expected to produce a public lecture, demo, video, performance, or exhibition as part of the residency. My partners espresso machine had an electrical fire last month.

Decided to fix it myself and long story short, $65 in parts and a trip to Autozone she has a working espresso machine again.

Makes me wonder if I could help others locally save money by helping them repair things.

Side note I was very happy to see Autozone still has their DEI in place. I checked before going because no company who shuttered DEI is getting a penny from our pockets.

Ve verzi 0.1 je funkční rychloměr a vzdálenost trip. Zároveň hardwarově jsem ještě daleko od toho, čeho jsem chtěl dosáhnout. Ale jako pracovní verzi to považuji za dost dobré na to, abych projekt chtěl pustit do světa 😊
Přijímám kritiku, rád zodpovím dotazy a ještě raději se poučím jak co se týká psaní kódu, tak co se týká správy repozitáře. Přeci jen jedu metodou pokus-omyl 😅

Finally finished the replacement of the old 8-bit board with 32-bit v 4.2.7 silent board on my Ender-3. I don't know how does the motherboard affect the silence of the 3D printer, but the difference is staggering. Before it was like a column of tanks riding through town, no all I can hear is the fan ... 😀 👍 Looking soon to follow with the installation of CR-touch. I really need to step up my 3D printing game, have fallen behind a little bit in recent years ...

After some busy work weeks (including an indie theatre production) I got to work on Banksia again today.

We got a prototype assembled and working! I did my first hot-plate reflow soldering, and figured out that some of the connector pinouts were backwards, classic. Bodge wires to the rescue. It’s still short a few parts that I forgot to order.

@julia helped with a bunch of ESPHome debugging to get it up and running with the bleeding-edge ESP32-C6 support.
Happily ESPHome’s component system includes the ability to patch itself directly from specific GitHub pull requests! So we were able to patch the ADC peripheral with code that hasn’t yet made it into the dev stream.

A rectangular slab as big as two decks of cards, in 3D-printed purple plastic, with an epaper screen at the top and four wide cutout buttons below. The screen has todays date and time, and CO2 and TVOC readings

A technical question about SPI. I'm looking at a machine, that has 5 SPI peripherals and a controller. The same CS signal is connected to all of the peripherals.

Am I correct in my thinking that if I would want to reshuffle the devices without access to the firmware in the controller, I'm basically out of luck since it pushes data to all the peripherals with the expectation that the first one takes its piece, forwards the rest to the second and and so forth until everyone has had their share?

#s0Projects update on Banksia -- made good progress modelling the case. This version is for 6 buttons with no screen. The version with 4 buttons and screen will come next.
But at this stage I'm pretty close to ready to put one together when the parts arrive and I get this printed!
