Day 36:
The beautiful May weather continues, so I rode my road on the city trails and the Douglas State Trail to Pine Island & back for 48 miles. On the way home I took County Road 3 for 6 of the miles. The crab apple trees and red buds are now blossoming and are spectacular. Unfortunately for me, the apple trees in the orchard next to the trail were not. I hope I don't miss them when I'm gone next week. The ephemeral wildflowers are passing their peak.

Day 35:
Another ideal, sunny May day to ride, so I rode my on the Shooting Star State Trail from LeRoy to Austin MN and back for 60 miles. I deliberately chose a headwind coming back as I need to ride 47 miles and 62 miles twice each next week on the Mickelson Trail and may not have advantageous wind. The Shooting Star Trail (named for the prairie wildflower) goes through Lake Louise State Park where they were doing prescribed burns on the restored prairie.

Day 34: It was an awesome day to ride, so I rode my gravel on the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail from the Faribault trailhead past Elysian to milepost 13 and back for 51 miles. There were a lot of ephemeral wildflowers blooming right on the side of the trail. The best part of the trail is the 2.5 miles it goes through Sakatah Lake State Park. There were a lot of cyclists taking advantage of this especially nice day. Even Scoops Ice Cream in Elysian was open.

Day 33:
Still cool, but with less wind and a promise of sunshine, I took my road out and did a long road and trail ride, looping through Chester, Viola, Elgin, Plainview, Viola again and home for 55 miles. This route is somewhat hilly, so that helps with my prep for my Mickelson Trail ride in 10 days. For the most part the road traffic was light. I guess with that much effort, I earned a spot on the couch to watch Stanley Cup hockey later.

Day 32:
We have house guests coming in the afternoon, so I had to ride in the morning. It was yukky, cold (for May), cloudy and windy. So I rode my road on the city trails for 34 miles. The Zumbro South Trail now has the copious Virginia Bluebells blooming, and it will probably peak in a couple days. I'm using the Seek app by iNaturalist to record the flowers I see, but now also the fungi because I am such a fun guy! Better weather is coming! Yeah!

Day 31:
It is a busy day and a rainy day. But I managed to mostly miss the rain as I rode my to have coffee with my hockey team as usual. But getting there wasn't usual. Due to utility construction, park construction and road construction, I was forced to take three separate detours to what is normally a simple, mostly multiuse path route. The detours add one busy road crossing, while making another very safe as the busy road is closed just past the crossing.
