Sunday is for collecting colors for the next week.

The photos are not particularly good, but I just love orioles (Pirole) and bee-eaters (Bienenfresser)

Orioles are cunning. In German, their call sounds like "I am a hoopoo!" ("I bin a Wiedehopf!"), although clearly they aren't.

bee-eater perched on a branch with its exotic colors in full display: bright yellow chin, blue belly, red-brown cap, black eye-stripe and long black beak, slightly curved downward. the bird is seen from the front, looking to the viewer's right.

a yellow oriole perched on a pine top. the bird has a mid-sized, ponted beek, black wings, eyes and tail, and is otherwise bright yellow.

a flying bee-eater seen from below. we see the pointed and long wings with their cream-white feathers and their darker back edge as well as the bright blue body and the yellow neck.

Bald Eagle in Flight

I captured this photograph near my home in Louisiana a couple of years ago while out walking with my dogs. Suddenly, a bald eagle soared overhead, creating an unforgettable moment. Though these majestic birds do inhabit Louisiana, spotting one is rare—unlike in some northern regions where they can be as common as pigeons.

A female ruby throated hummingbird is a tiny bird. It has iridescent green feathers on its back, grey wings and a white throat, chest and belly. It has a very long, slender beak and tiny feet. This one was caught in mid-hover and you can see her cap of green feathers and her grey wings. You can also see her tiny black feet and legs tucked against her body.

Here is the same female ruby throated hummingbird at the nectar feeder, again in mid-hover. to give you an idea of her size, the circular loop of wire that is part of the structure of the feeder is about the size of a dime.

Today we went to the lake and between Merlin and me we got 78 species of birds, 14 of which were warbler species, 5 of which were vireo species. And @EricMartin saw a loon there too which I missed.

An amazing time of year and the lake is bursting with life!
