“We’ve returned to a stage where ‘reality’ as presented by authority is allowed unchallenged. We live or die by a value-system that is abhorrent, typically upper class, white-Anglo-Saxon-heterosexual male. In prose fiction this is expressed by a 3rd party narrative where the ‘voice’ is Standard English Literary form.”

Salvage · Existence is a guerilla campaign: an interview with James Kelman - SalvageMalignant bureaucracies, class hatred, the revanchist rump of British Empire - they were all on the wane we were told, but presently they are alive and virulent. These are the cold winds that blow through half a century of James Kelman’s writing, huddled around a warm poetic of everyday resistance.

Back from fiddle camp, it was my first time going to a music learning event like this, it was really nice and wholesome!

I learned a lot and finally got to meet other trad cellists!
It was a scottish trad camp and i wasn't too familiar with it as i mostly play irish, but now i want to learn more!

Definitely made me eager to practice more! And to dance!

“since this first volume of his purported ‘memoirs’ was published recently in the US, all decked out with notes and glossary, no fewer than 10 out of 42 reviewers—one of them a professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University—have been gulled into taking Flashman seriously”

“the books add up, by design or otherwise, to one of the most sustained and damning condemnations of imperialism in popular literature … It’s the books’ unlikely anti-imperial bona fides that make them surprisingly relevant today, not least because the same old adventures continue to take place on the same old battlefields.”

A very happy birthday salute to Brigadier-General Sir Harry Flashman, VC, KCB, KCIE, etc. etc. – born #OTD, 5 May, 1822. As his extraordinary entry in WHO’S WHO (c.1908, below) shows, Sir Harry embodied all those qualities that built & sustained the British Empire 🇬🇧 🫡

>> Also, I'm not comparing apples (or Apples) to oranges. I'm saying: "holy crap, there's a $1,600 fruit! Did everyone realize there's fruit that cost that much?!"

It's like buying a $400 bike and comparing it to a $40000 car and saying hold crap, there's a $40K vehicle.

I'm surprised nobody commented on the actual topic the OP raised — that #TrumpTariffs are #TrumpTaxes, not on Apple, but on #American consumers, not #Canadian, not the #Scottish.
