Here’s another feature (this time from Netflix itself) on the importance of authenticity in production design of North of North.

Fashion in ‘North of North’ has generated a lot of comment in social media.
I’ve noticed that many of these come with assumptions about what women would be wearing in Inuit communities, and a lack of understanding of the importance of sustainable design in Inuit culture.
CBC has a great feature with interviews with the show’s creators on the point.
‘The show's emphasis on slow fashion ran counter to a film industry that often operates on a quicker schedule.
"Nothing here is mass-made," Aglok MacDonald said. "So it really is going out to independent artists who are just crafting a few things here and there and seeing if they could put in a bulk order."’

The federal elections leaders debate is happening now and I am amazed that APTN is broadcasting a live translated event in Plains Cree.
I speak my James Bay Mushkegowuk Cree dialect fluently and I can understand about 50% of the broadcast and it's beautiful.
It would be like an English speaking person in Canada listening to a heavily inflected English with a Scottish or Irish accent.
North of North has dropped on Netflix today.
It’s an absolute joy of a show that looks misogyny, settler paternalism and intergenerational trauma directly in the eye but still leaves one feeling delighted, cheering on Siaja’s journey as a young ‘modern Inuk woman’ episode by episode.
A CBC-ATPN coproduction with Netflix, it ran weekly on CBC Gem earlier this year in Canada.
It deserves all the viewing minutes globally.
Starting a rewatch is what I needed this week.

.
excellent, all five stars. Will be watching for that again, for sure.

.
it’s pretty amazing, I’m liking it
“Shadow of Dumont,” it’s called.
#APTN
.
it’s weird, it’s like the least professional documentary you ever saw, like he’s surely learning what he’s after, but it seems like he’s not telling us, LOL
.
it’s great, that’s just the non-standard theme ie something. Kind of funny.
Learning about Dumont today on #APTN and from a neurodiversity pov, this is an interesting thing to say, innit?
Ok, to all of you out their who adore Dan Jeannotte as Sam Kirk in Start Trek
Strange New Worlds, you will have the opportunity to see him as adorably appalling guest side character in the 6th episode of the new CBC-APTN comedy ‘North of North’.
CBC ‘North of North’ will dropping the season one finale next week. Netflix, which is a partner, will be dropping the entire 8-episode season this spring.
I really can’t say how much I adore this joyful show right now. But look forward to hearing everyone else’s enthusiasm when it is available outside Canada.
